Burning Ridge by Margaret Mizushima
Thank you @crookedlanebooks for this amazing new read! 🔥🔥🔥
This is a fantastic read - mystery, action and most importantly, DOGS! I am completely enamored and captivated when it comes to police dogs - I think it is fascinating how brilliant and capable these animals are, and how intrinsically valuable they are to the partners and teams they work with. I have spent years watching videos of police dogs, and more than once have considered how amazing it would be to transition into work that would allow me to spend my days alongside these incredible creatures. So to have a murder mystery where a dog is at the center of the story is EXACTLY my cup of tea. 🐕🔥
Synopsis: On a rugged Colorado mountain, a charred body is discovered in a shallow grave. Mattie Cobb and her K-9 partner Robo are called in to the investigation - but things take a dark turn when Mattie realizes she knows the dead man. Suddenly Mattie finds herself being stalked by a deranged killer, and there may be no getting out alive. 🐕🔥
Everything about this book was enjoyable - it is a fast paced, easy read that you get sucked right into; you have Mattie as a kick ass lead female; a relationship that you want to root for, developing as you go on; and a mystery that kept me guessing. Completely perfect to kick off a new reading season with. I loved that while this didn’t require me to overthink, it also didn’t make it easy to guess the outcome. 🐕🔥
Not to mention, this particular story really resonated with me from the perspective of the wildfire burning - we've had so many fires here this year, that it was easy to feel like this was something that could be happening in my backyard. In a creepy, serial killer sort of way. 😂
Overall this is a fantastic read, and an author that should be on your radar if you are looking for some easy mysteries to fall into this season (pun intended). I am so excited that there are 3 other books in this series - I will be diving in to that back catalogue in a hurry!
Happy Tuesday my friends!
