The Intimacy Interviews by Ashley Skeen
This is, without question, the best book mail of my year. This is a book that I was so privileged to read in its early iteration, and to hold a finished copy in my hands has me tearing up with joy + pride. 💜
Ashley came bursting into my life in her personal amazing form of sunshine, smile, love + light years ago when we became bunk mates at yoga teacher training together in Costa Rica. We clicked & became fast friends as we vinyasa-ed and ate and laughed and cried our way through weeks of that amazing, transformative experience. It says what it needs to that we are heading into our 7th year of friendship, living so far apart and yet never far at all. 💜
When Ash told me she had this idea for this book, I was so excited. Ashley is a writer at her core (even though she doesn’t necessarily always believe that about herself) and this was exactly the right project for her - holding space for women to share their experiences with intimacy and love in all its forms, and then shaping those stories to share with the world. 💜
What she created is BEAUTIFUL. I have ridden a rollercoaster of emotion with this book, with these stories. I still don’t have the exact words to share why this book is so tremendous. I’m sitting with it while I work on a full, heartfelt review. But this book will resonate with so many women - if you’ve dated and loved and lived, you will likely see yourself reflected somewhere in some of these stories. That alone makes it such a special kind of reading. 💜
Friends - this is that special love letter to gift yourself this month. I could not recommend it enough. 💜
@ashley_skeen_author_yogi - I am so, so proud of you. I love you. I knew you could do it and I can’t wait to see what that writers heart brings next. You are my #goals and my forever #GaiaGirl and I am endlessly grateful the universe plopped you right in my life. Namaste, with all my love. xx 💜
“I want us to talk. I mean like really, really talk. I want us to talk about the thing that tends to be our downfall and our salvation. That’s right, I want to talk about romantic love and intimacy and passion and heartbreak and all of the little things that exist between all of these words.”So begins the letter that Ashley Skeen shared on social media and after receiving nearly 100 responses, she dedicated a year of her life to talking with women and sharing their stories. What follows in these pages is a vulnerability that happens only when one is given the safe space to speak her truth. Women of all ages, scattered across the United States and sexuality spectrum were interviewed. Some spoke from the white-hot center of heartbreak while others were able to view their pain from a calm place of hindsight and resilience. Others found complete joy in their union and shared their journey to get to that place. Throughout this experience, Ashley delved into searching her own soul to figure out where she kept going wrong with love and relationships; so while each chapter holds a wholly unique story of a different woman, it also tells of Ashley---revelations from her past and stories from her present. Part memoir and part storytelling The Intimacy Interviews is a real glimpse into what it means to be a woman in love, pain or confusion.
