#FashionVictim by Amina Akhtar
Thank you Crooked Lane Books for the copy of this one - all opinions are my own.
This book completely and utterly surprised me. I will fully admit that when I started it, I was baffled; I didn't really get it, it seemed so ridiculous and over the top and I was a little lost. Then I hit Chapter 5 and for one reason or another I became completely obsessed with the story, and fell totally in love. I ended up devouring the last 2/3 rds of the book all at once, because I just could not put it down.
Amina Akhtar has an uncanny talent for making this satirical, sarcastic and wildly outrageous tale compelling in a way that is wonderfully unexpected. The story follows Anya St. Clair, a New York fashion editor who almost has it all - all except the object of her singular affection, Sarah Taft, who Anya is determined to become best friends with. Things become complicated when Sarah and Anya start competing for the same promotion, but Anya won't let anything or anyone stand in her way, and she has the bodies to prove it.
Anya might be the most likable and relatable psychopath I have ever read. I loved her, and I could probably read an entire series of books about her insane life. I will be over here keeping my fingers crossed for a sequel.
This is the perfect book to read if you need something fun, unique and refreshing for your reading pile this fall. #BitchesGetStitches #FashionVictim
