Hi.

Welcome to my blog. I write about books, food, wine and travel.

Come hang out with me.

Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter

Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter

Ya’ll. I think we can all just go ahead and acknowledge @karinslaughterauthor as the queen of twisting, gripping, what the hell will happen next mysteries. She is an author that NEVER fails me when I need something juicy to dive into. How she consistently writes these dark, wild, compulsively readable books over and over and over is beyond me, but heavens knows I am grateful to be a fan! 🍂

Pieces of Her is just completely mind blowing in its complexity and uniqueness. I had only the vaguest idea of what the plot was when I jumped into this one, and as always I found myself on a RIDE. Sometimes I genuinely love when I don’t have a full picture of what I am about to read, because I can’t start guessing on what is going to happen by the end of the second chapter. Especially when it comes to mysteries, I want to be on the edge of my seat from start to end. Karin manages to create that level of suspense every single time, like I know something juicy is coming, but that could be ANYTHING and there is only one way to find out - ignore all my adult responsibilities, cancel plans and stay in, and up all night, to FIND OUT. 🍂

Synopsis: Andy believes she knows everything there is to know about her mother, Laura. Until a trip to the local mall explodes into violence and suddenly Andy has no idea what she has just witnessed her mother doing. Her mother who won’t speak to anyone, especially the police, leaving Andy to follow a trail of clues to try to figure out the secrets that Laura never wanted uncovered. 🍂

To say that Karin Slaughter is a tremendous author is an understatement - she weaves a complex story within a story, moving from past to present deftly, tying every event together in ways that keep you hooked page after page. The amount of detail that is hidden chapter to chapter is mind boggling, and every twist is devastatingly clever. I could have honestly read an entire book based on Laura’s backstory, with all the exquisite detail of that mayhem. I ADORE that Laura’s character was so wildly complicated, unreliable and surprising. THESE are the women I want to read - characters who are unpredictable. 🍂

I am not exaggerating when I say I inhaled this book (like I always do with her work) and I cannot say it enough - if you need mystery that’s got some meat to it, look no further because this is the perfect autumn read for you. I cannot WAIT to talk to you guys about this one! 🍂

QOTD: What are your go-to authors that never fail to amaze? 🍂

Happy humpday! 🍂🍂🍂
