The Hunting Party by Lucy Foley
Well my friends! Let me just say! Just when you think you can’t find a whodunit that will shock you and take you on a riveting, twisting ride, along comes a gem that proves you wrong.
This book is the exact kind of twisting thriller that you NEED to dive into this winter - set in the Scottish Highlands during a winter storm that leaves them stranded, a group of friends who arrived to celebrate New Years Eve together now find themselves with one dead body and an unknown murderer in their midst.
I appreciate stories that just fully suck you in, and @lucyfoleyauthor is like a masterclass in this. The book from start to finish was riveting, atmospheric and unbelievably tense. I felt like I was right there with the group experiencing this remote lodge in the middle of nowhere, and I was alternatively completely unsettled and on high alert.
I LOVED the cast of characters in this one; a group of friends who became a collective group in college and are now in their 30's and beginning to break apart, made them this perfect cast for a mystery like this one. I loved that they were all flawed, and very human, and loved even more that the things that were pulling them apart were completely realistic (babies, old grudges, lifestyles). It completely grounded the story and had me guessing the entire way through about who would wind up dead and who would be the one to have done it.
I'm also a sucker for books that move timelines, so this one bouncing back and forth between the present day, where the body has been found and the Lodge staff are trying to figure out what is going on, and three days prior to the group arriving at the lodge, and their actions between then and the present day, let little tiny details reveal themselves one at a time perfectly. I was hooked. I couldn't put this down, I was so invested in seeing who these people really were behind their masks of social nicety.
I won't offer a hint of spoiler, but I will say this makes near perfect winter reading, and you should 100% add this to your TBR for a snowy day! This one is coming out February 12th friends!
Thank you @harpercollinsca for sending me this one! I’ll never go on a remote vacation again! 😂
